Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to identify why the debit cards are preferred over credit
cards. For this reason a research has been conducted by interviewing and distributing
questionnaires to business class and card holders and gathering data from secondary
sources.
RESEARCH QUESTION:
Why do consumers prefer debit card over credit card? What is the difference in
consumption pattern of people having card and those who do not have it?
THE RATIONALE OF RESEARCH:
The rationale of the research is to study why debit card are preferred over credit cards.
Do the individuals, who choose payments through card mode, prefer debit cards or
not and if they prefer .it, then what is the reason behind it.
NATURE OF RESEARCH:
The research is qualitative and quantitative in nature and is based on the data gathered
through both secondary and primary sources. The research methodology consists of a
literature review process accompanied by primary research i.e. in-depth interviews
and distributing questionnaires to people in banks, educational institutes, house wives,
industry and corporate sector etc.
POPULATION:
The population comprises of all the people living in Karachi and having plastic cards
i.e. debit and credit cards, with them.
SAMPLE:
Cardholders from various income groups.
SAMPLE SIZE:
A sample size of 100 respondents is selected which comprise of both male and female
aging 18 to 40 above. To make the sample truly representative of the population,
different people residing in Karachi from different socio-economic back grounds have
been selected to enhance the scope of the research and hence validate the findings.
Due to limited resources and time, it is not possible to take into account the entire
population but it has been ensured that the opinion of a diverse group of people is
obtained.
METHODS OF STUDY:
The research has been carried out through in depth interviews of card holders,
surveys have been conducted and questionnaires have been distributed accordingly.
