| dc.description.abstract | Our objective to carry out this project was to bring an innovative and yet an efficient way which would provide a student a unique facility at hand which enables him to keep precise track and get timely alerts on the vehicles location in real-time. The goal for undertaking this project was to create a feasible and an ingenuous system capable of tracking university’s transport vehicle by utilizing the inbuilt Global Positioning System (GPS) feature of a typical smartphone. We employed the computing power of a Windows Phone 7 (WP7) device. The coordinates were sent by the WP7 to a server, where they were plotted on a map. Both the university admin as well as the students can view this, by using a Website and WP7 application respectively. When the vehicle nears a predefined pickup point, an automated Short Message Service (SMS) is sent and delivered to all those students who use this pickup point to get onto the vehicle. After the implementation, the results observed were an improved time management amongst the students and were able to generate invaluable reports for the university to make better decisions based on the insightful information given. | en_US |
