Abstract:
The purpose of the quantitative, correlational study was to evaluate the relationship between
organizational culture and the quality of communication in project management environments
for organizations in the corporate sector in Karachi. A sample size of 153 from a target
population of 450 PMO managers was used for the study. Organizational culture was assessed in
four dimensions, including clan culture, adhocracy culture, market culture, and hierarchy culture,
and measured using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI). The quality of
communication was measured using the Interdepartmental Communication Quality
Questionnaire (ICQQ), which was a researcher-developed instrument. Results from the study
revealed a relationship between quality of communication and three dimensions of
organizational culture (Clan culture, adhocracy culture, and hierarchy culture). There was no
relationship found between market culture and the quality of communication. Multiple linear
regression analysis was used to detennine the combined effects of the four dimensions in
predicting the quality of communication and results showed that clan culture and hierarchy
culture added infonnation to predict the quality of communication. The study has implications
for leaders and project management practitioners interested in adopting the appropriate culture
that will improve the quality of communication and enhance organizational performance.
Recommendations for future research include expanding the study to the entire corporate
industry to gain wider perspectives.
