Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance management system at
Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works aiming at to know how the performance of employees is
being managed to obtain the organizational objectives and also understanding about the strengths
and weaknesses of existing performance management system.
Methodology/ Sample: This study uses questionnaire completed by 300 respondents.
Although, all employees of KS & EW were the ultimate population of this dissertation, as every
managerial and non-managerial staff is part of the Performance Management of the organization.
Hence, census approach may be utilized. However, due to various constraints and limitations,
the convenience & judgment non probability methods of sampling have been opted for selection
of sample. The data analysis includes quantitative data analysis. A well - structured questionnaire
has been used to acquire the data. Data has been integrated while using SPSS software package.
Findings: The analysis and comparative results clearly suggest that there are various
shortcomings in the performance management structure of KS & EW which need to be addressed
in the true letter and spirit to manage the performance of employees.
Practical Implications: The outcomes of the research might help the KS & EW top
management, other corporate decision makers, government policy formulators and related
quarters in understanding the importance of effective performance management system.
Companies may acquire & maintain competitive advantage if the effective performance
management system is maintained.
