To Analyze Dredging Requirement at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and Suggest Suitable Measures to overcome Challenges

Abstract

This research study is conducted to analyze the requirement of dredging at Port Qasim and find solutions to the problems being faced by the Port. The information or data regarding ports, dredging, types of dredgers, and challenges being faced by the Port Qasim in managing dredging affairs are obtained from secondary sources available with various departments of Port Qasim, websites, interviews, International Hydrographic Organization manuals, reference books, PQA Board Resolution, Implementation Agreements and Contract Agreements between Port Qasim and various firms etc. The secondary sources of information have only been considered in this study. The study also include analysis of dredging requirement and Cost-Benefit Analysis of conducting dredging with own PQA Dredger viz a viz contract dredging. Based on findings from the study and analysis, it is concluded that there is requirement of regular dredging at Port Qasim and it will further increase in future. It is also concluded that, it is cost effective to undertake dredging works with own PQA Dredger and there is dire need to restructure Dredging Department of Port Qasim to manage dredging matters.
