Abstract:
Purpose of the study: The purpose of this research is to explore teachers' awareness and
perceptions regarding Heuristic Teaching Methodology. In this exploratory study, general as well as learning-concerned perceptions of teachers have been explored as these play vital role in the level of contribution towards the application of Heuristic teaching method.
Methodology/sample: This is almost a census research. 90 teachers (permanent plus visiting) of Management Sciences Department, Bahria University Karachi, have been taken as respondents. This study employs the use of interviews and questionnaires. Results and data analysis has been represented through the use of pie-diagrams and bar-charts for improved understanding of the explored findings/results.
Findings: The results explored showed that almost all respondents possess awareness
regarding Heuristic Teaching Methods. Almost all respondents hold positive general
perceptions regarding Heuristic Teaching Methods. However, with respect to learning concerned (application-based) perceptions, acquired through each heuristic intervention, their perceptions differ for each of the heuristic interventions i.e. for case-study, class/group discussions and role-plays.
Research liniitations/Implications: First, this research this has been conducted in Bahria
University Karachi, therefore, results may vary depending on heterogeneity of locale and on the number of Universities. Secondly, the outcomes of the results can be used by the
university management to further improve the application of Heuristic Teaching Methods by initiating periodic professional developmental programs for teachers guidance and
counseling, in areas where it is required.
