Abstract:
The study area is situated in Khushalgarh concession, Potwar Sub-basin about 70 miles west of Islamabad and lies to the north of Jand-basal road, Attock, Pakistan [Lat (DMS) 33° 32' 9N;Long (DMS) 72° 1' 21E]. Well named as Jalwal-01 is also situated in the vicinity of the area. Data acquired for seismic interpretation comprises of 2-DBase map and four 2-D seismic sections namely 86-KH-21, 86-KH-22, 86-KH-96, 86-KH-97. Data was provided my Landmark Resources Islamabad (LMKR) on the recommendation of Directorate General of Petroleum Concession (DGPC). Three horizons were marked on the basis of strong reflectivity on the seismic sections. Horizons were named as Horizon A, Horizon B, Horizon C. During fault identification both normal & reverse faults were observed and marked. The study area is under compressional regime because of the nearby passing Khair-i-Murat Fault. After fault identification Two-way Time contour maps and Depth contour maps were generated to get an idea of the structural geometry and mark possible leads in the study area. Time contour maps showed a discontinuous behavior but at some portions anticlinal structures were identified resulting in decreasing time values towards the centre of the time closure. On depth contour map of Horizon A an anticlinal structure structure was observed, bounded by two normal faults F1 and F2 and this zone was marked as as the possible lead in the area. But to confirm the results 2D data must be cross-checked with 3D Interpreted data so that accurate picture of the subsurface geometry should be determined.
