dc.description.abstract The primary objective of the research was to quantify the Talhar Shale Formation as an unconventional reservoir in the Badin Area using seismic inversion process. This was achieved through model-based inversion of the real data set of the Badin Area. The data set included the 3D seismic data and well logs of Zaur-Deep 01, Chakri -01 and Babu-01. The well logs were analyzed for spurious data and data editing and condition was applied specifically to density and porosity logs. These edited values were used for the basis of seismic petrophysical analysis for establishing empirical relations between the acoustic and elastic properties of the reservoir formation. Out of the three basic models of post-stack inversion that were performed, Model-based inversion was selected for computation of porosity and total organic content. Model-based inversion was selected because it provided a greater bandwidth and detail of the variation of the acoustic impedance over the study area. The empirical relation for Total Organic Content (TOC) was derived through Paissey Method using data from Zaur-Deep 01, while for porosity a simple relation between impedance and porosity was used. The TOC and porosity models indicated that the unconventional reservoir potential was significantly greater over the northern region while it decreased as we moved towards the south-eastern area. en_US
