dc.description.abstract The project chosen and executed is about a new scientific method used for growing fruits and vegetables. The method is ‘hydroponic’ made out of two Greek words ‘hydro’ meaning water and ‘pono’ meaning labor. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants and vegetables without using soil. A company called Farmers Market (Pvt) Ltd is using hydroponics to grow vegetables in Pakistan. Their current products consist of three varieties of tomatoes: strawberry tomatoes, campari tomatoes and tomatoes on the vine. A lot of individuals do not know about this method and are unaware of this procedure being used in Pakistan. This is an opportunity which with time can expand increasing the exports as well as the local market supplies, expanding the variety of vegetables being produced. Since Pakistan is an agricultural economy and earns most of its revenue through agriculture therefore this market should be properly explored. The topic for research is very new and has not been explored previously. The whole concept seems very intriguing; therefore we have selected this project. The objective of this project is to perform an in-depth analysis of this method so we have a sound understanding on how to expand it country wide. The government supports hydroponic methods but they lack funds to support it on a large scale. Our objective would be to explore this unique method and market it for others to learn about and use. The target audience for this project would be various investors, Biologists/scientists, Research cells/departments, Farmhouse owners, various vegetation farmers, Different Agricultural setups in the country. The purpose of our study is to explore the method/system of hydroponics and raise awareness as well as build on it for the future. We want that this method should be widely used in the country to benefit the population and we as a country should be sufficient in this area. The expected outcomes of this project are to have a firm and better understanding of the procedure. We expect to raise awareness of this method and would try to encourage others to use it. We also expect to get the word out to as many people as we can about this break-through method of using soil-less culture, so it spreads for the betterment of the country. en_US
