dc.description.abstract The controlled source electromagnetic sounding method (CSEM) detects and characterizes hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs buried beneath a conductive sea bed by the use of electromagnetic energy. This method has emerged as a promising technique during recent years. The project demonstrates several variants of it using COMSOL software. It uses a mobile horizontal antenna with variable frequency which is towed above the sea floor. An array of sea floor receivers measures the electric field at various distances away from the antenna. The resistive reservoir reflects/guides energy which results in a higher received signal in the presence of reservoir. A number of scenarios have been implemented in order to check the reliability and credibility of CSEM technique. en_US
