Until recently a lot of work was being done on how data should be stored, retrieved, and manipulated. Whenever a large amount of data is present, there is bound to be relationships between the individual data elements. Although extensive research has been done in the field of databases, but it is still a source of great concern that users are not able to fully visualize the data that is contained in a database. The basic focus of data visualization is to communicate information effectively, clearly and accurately through the use of graphics. Further objectives include the visualization of data based on various perspectives and objectives. The purpose of this project is to design a data visualization tool that will assist the scientific community by providing them a host of features related to authors, their research areas, collaborations and research publications. The aim is to graphically visualize structured data for the ease of the user in a widespread yet interconnected set of data. Besides this, extensive search options have been provided that assist in presenting changing perspectives and aspects by manipulating data and its interrelations. The project endeavors to achieve the above objectives by pre processing a factual database obtained from the Journal of Universal Computer Science (J.UCS). The obtained database is an extensive collection of data about research areas, authors and their publications. Although this data is scattered, but upon closer investigation it is evident that the data is in fact interconnected. It is these data interconnections that this project is visualizing through the creation of a Java based tool for the scientific community. |
