Abstract:
A huge number of people suffer from paralysis throughout the world. There are different types of paralysis out of which we will focus on monoplegia which basically affects one limb of the body. To date there is no cure for people who suffer cerebral palsy, through this research we have proposed a methodology to give people with cerebral palsy a temporary solution to help them gain back the control of their body We have proposed a methodology to produce muscle activity in the affected limb through electric nerve simulation and electromyography. For that purpose we have a designed a wired system which isn’t a prosthetic nor orthotic in nature. The system involves an application of EMG modified to catch the signals produced by the muscles in the forearm. These signals are then converted from analogue to digital in our micro-controller device to read them and coded in a way to control the other arm through a nerve stimulation device. So signals produced from one healthy arm are directed towards the affected arm to replicate the same action as done by the healthy arm. The device is designed in such a way to be small in size and user friendly while safety is not compromised as it deals contracting and relaxing of muscles of human body. This research would help millions of people suffering from monoplegia paralysis around the world.
