Abstract:
The present study carried out by the researcher was an attempt to examine the effects of
standardizing Human Resource practices in M/s Tullow. It is an oil exploration company
currently operating in 23 countries having more than 250 employees. The company is
currently in the phase of standardizing its policies and has started to roll out the One
Tullow Policy. The researcher has tried to analyze the views of the employees and
management to understand the effectiveness of standardizing HR practices.
The study carried out by the researcher is descriptive in nature. Both primary &
secondary data were collected for this research. The primary data was collected through
interviews and questionnaires. Collected data was tabulated and frequency tables and pie
charts were created.
As per the results of questionnaires the company employees have mixed ideas about the
new policy being rolled out. They were not much satisfied with former local HRM
practices. They are of the view that human resource functions such as training,
performance appraisal and compensation should be improved and standardized globally.
Majori ty of the respondents were of the view that new policy will lead to higher
organizational productivity.
From the above findings it is recommended that employees need to be educated and
trained about the new policy through introduction of employee handbook, training etc. so
as to help them overcome the fear of change by understanding the policies of
standardization. Their main areas of concern like salaries, trainings should also be
addressed to keep them motivated and help them understand the true spirit of the new
policy.
It is concluded that the new policy should be introduced and the employees should be
educated about the new policy so that they understand the actual benefits of this policy
and lead to an increased productivity in the organization.
