| dc.description.abstract | The study area, Ghorzai village is a part of Kohat sub-basin (Upper Indus Basin) and is bounded by Kala Chitta Range, Salt Range and Kurram-Parachinar Range from north, south and west respectively, while the eastern boundary is marked by the Indus River. The area lies in the Gondwanian domain of Pakistan. Ghorzai area is intensely deformed which is proved by high angle dips of most of the formations. The direction of major tectonic transport seems to be north to south and the area has undergone two consecutive phases of deformation. The Ghorzai area constitutes of sedimentary rock assemblages of different ages ranging from Eocene to Pliocene and Quaternary alluvial deposits. A detailed geological map of the study area entailing all the major geological structures implies intense deformation. The geological cross section along traverse AB illustrates the presence of thrust fault and tight to moderate, symmetrical to asymmetrical folds. | en_US |
