dc.description.abstract Ratana area lies in the north western part of Kohat-Potwar Basin. The Potwar sub-basin is situated in the foothills of Himalayas in northern Pakistan. It includes the Potwar Plateau, the Salt Range, and the Jhelum Plain. Main Boundary Thrust marks its northern boundary and Salt Range in the south. Jhelum fault occurs in the east. Kalabagh fault in the west. The study area lies in the compressional tectonic regime and thrust bounded and salt cored east west trending pop-up structure. Chorgali, Sakesar and Nammal formations are acting as potential reservoir rocks. The prime objective of this research work is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential using well log data of Ratana-03 well, Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan. For petrophysical analysis, log data of Ratana 03 well was acquired from LMKR with approval of DGPC Islamabad. Two zones have been marked that is Sakesar Limestone and Chorgali Limestone. Petrophysical parameters were calculated, and the results showed the average shale percentage estimated in these zones is about 32.7% and 47.7%. The average sonic porosity calculated was about 3.15% and 5%, and effective porosity is 6.13% and 4%. The hydrocarbon saturation is approximately 58% for Chorgali Formation and 74% for Sakesar Limestone. Sw is about 42% and 26%. These values of porosity indicate the zone is highly porous, highly saturated with hydrocarbons with less water saturation. en_US
