Abstract:
In the last decade or so the world of internet or more appropriately known as web has
evolved drastically. People from all walks of life seem to engage with web for one reason or
another. This is due to the fact that within few clicks remotely you can get the desired
information across the globe, the web evolution from static .com page representing
company’s online presence to complex web sites accommodating complex needs of end
users has open a new venture for cyber criminals and new dimension for I.T security
professionals to explore. Pakistan has also experience the effect ofthis global empowerment
of Web. Based on it almost every bank in Pakistan offers internet banking service to its
customers, which is a great ad on to banking services but internet banking inherits the
unique security issues of web plus the additional security issues which are unique to
Pakistani society. The presented research study explores the web security issues relevant to
Internet banking in Pakistan. An exploratory study has been conducted that is based on the
web security issues of internet banking in Pakistan. Results show that majorly the
importance of internet banking web security controls by security professionals in the banks
is paid to network level controls by using network security devices i.e Firewalls. And
whether the I.B web application is developed in-house or outsourced the needed emphasis
hasn’t been paid to SDLC security controls.
