dc.description.abstract Surveillance of high risk storage facilities like ammunition depots is a critical task with disastrous consequences if not done right. Deploying a highly efficient temperature surveillance system in ammunition depots where there are live explosives can be very expensive and its maintenance quite difficult. This system provides a highly efficient and less expensive solution to this problem by using wireless sensor network. Sensing nodes are deployed in the monitored area and communicate with the base station via Radio Waves where the host application alerts the respondents on premise as well as send an SMS to the higher management via cellular communication. The WSN consists of Sensor nodes that are made by coupling MICAz motes with MDA100 Sensor Boards. MICAz mote works on TinyOS that is coded in nesC language. The data transmission standard is 802.15.4. The motes transmit data only when the temperature reading is above 56oC. If the gateway node is not in range directly, the other nearby nodes relay the data towards the gateway node. en_US
