Abstract:
The study was undertaken to determine the role NGOs in development of Primary Educat ion. Educat ion is one of the most important indicators for social development of the country. There has been a concern in Pakistan about the low literacy rate and poor quality ·of education. The education system in Pakistan has been neglected over the past years, although successive governments have' repeatedly stressed the importance of education in their planning policies,

In the recent years Pakistan has received an encouraging response from the private sector particularly the NGOs who have supported the education sector in the perspective of quality of education as well as basic education. In this regard Tameer-e-Millat Foundation, Friends of Literacy and Mass Education and Sir Syed Memorial Society have made a sincere effort in order to promote the education sector both In terms of qualitative and quantitative aspects. These NGOs are commi t ted to provide and develop quality education and particular emphasis lS being given on ideology and character building through establishing formal, non-formal a technical training institutions.
