Abstract:
The main objective of the study area was to understand the geological setting,
perform the petro physical analysis to evaluate hydrocarbon potential and analyze elastic
parameter to understand reservoir properties using rock physics of Raj East-01 well. The
project was initiated by taking into account the exploration history of the area followed
by comprehension of stratigraphy and tectonic settings. We established the petroleum
system, performed the petro physical analysis and rock physics.
The purpose has been achieved by utilizing complete suite of wire line logs and
the available well data. This complete set of data had been issued by Land Mark
Resources, Pakistan with the prior permission of Directorate General of Petroleum
Concessions, Pakistan.
To complete the above mentioned task, all the reservoir intervals were evaluated
for the hydrocarbon potential in detail using set of equations and different formation
evaluation charts made by Schlumberger. In this study the reservoir lies at depth of 6500
- 6678 ft in Sand A and Sand B of Lower Goru Formation of Early Cretaceous age.
The methodology adopted to accomplish the petro physical interpretation of Raj
East-01 well included measurement of shale volume by employing gamma ray log,
estimation of porosity using density and neutron log, estimation of effective porosity,
calculation of resistivity of water utilizing spontaneous potential log, evaluation of
saturation of water and hydrocarbon saturation using Archie equation.
The research also includes the rock physics part which was performed to evaluate
the elastic properties of the reservoir zone. Primarily for rock physics primarily we used
sonic logs and density logs. Rock physics was aimed to establish P-wave velocity (Vp),
S-wave velocity (Vs), density, and their relationships to elastic modulus κ (bulk modulus)
and μ (rigidity Modulus), porosity, pore fluid, temperature, pressure, etc. for given
lithology and fluid types.
The results for the dissertation were then displayed in the form of excel sheets and
graphs for the better approach towards the task. Reservoir zone lies in Lower Goru
Formation of Cretaceous age. The results of petro physical analysis and rock physics of
Raj East-01 displayed good reservoir quality.
