Abstract:
This research was carried out to study life cycle analysis of an HDPE bottle
using GaBi software for a small uncertified industry Ready Pack industry, Rawat,
Rawalpindi. The main objective was to identify the consequent impacts of this bottle
on the environment. To carry out this life cycle analysis standard ISO14040
framework was used modified as required, goal and scope for the bottle were selected
and an inventory generated for the inputs and outputs for one bottle of HDPE then this
inventory was analyzed and interpreted using GaBi software to generate results
according to CML system. The result shows how much a bottle has a potential to
cause damage to different ecosystems and to environment. Graphs were generated for
different quantities by GaBi based on CML system according to which the potential
of different quantities are as follow, global warming potential 10.78 kg CO2 equiv ,
acidification potential 9.372 kg SO2 equiv, eutrophication potential 0.1 kg PO4 equiv,
ozone layer depletion potential 4.519e-13 kg R11 equiv, abiotic depletion potential
elements 1.79e-7 kg Sb equiv, abiotic depletion potential fossil 99.28 MJ equiv,
freshwater aquatic ecotoxicity potential 0.44 kg DCB equiv, human toxicity potential
6000.29 kg DCB equiv, marine aquatic ecotoxicity potential 643.387 kg DCB equiv,
photo chemical ozone creation potential 14.483 kg ethene equiv, terrestic ecotoxicity
potential 0.03 kg DCB equiv. The outcomes can potentially help the manufacturing
authorities to manage the potential damage caused by these bottles or any other
product.
