Abstract:
Safe and continuous food supply is one of the main issues to address for any low income
country. Developing countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and others which have their major
revenue generation from agriculture have to keep a good eye over all the factors which have
direct or indirect effect on the production land, healthy plant growth, cultivation and timely
supply of food. (Ericksen, 2008). Environmental condition and lasting effects of development
has caused a major shift of population to urban area which has made more mouths to feed and
fewer hands to grow food in countries such as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. (Johan, 1999).
Concept of food insecurity has also rise due to several factors such as poverty, gender inequality,
availability of water, health conditions, earthquakes, floods etc. therefore importance of
agriculture is high in the low income countries. Agriculture should provide enough food to meet
the local demands and also in surplus to gain revenue. (FAO, 1996)
