dc.description.abstract Employing people is not everyday activity other than large organizations or those with high staff turnover. A poor or bad selection decision can have catastrophic consequences for an organization. The reason is that the new appointee can adversely affect the morale and commitment of coworkers and negate efforts to foster team working. For managers, whose performance is frequently assessed on the basis of their staff, bad or poor selection decision can reflect very badly on their subsequent performance. So the action taken by the employer to ensure that the “best” candidate is attracted and selected can be equated to an investment decision. These days there is a growing concern for NTC to select qualified employees in order to improve its role in telecom sector. For this purpose it has become very important to know which techniques and methods are used by NTC currently to attract the right person for the right job and what is happening in the telecom sector of Pakistan. Purpose of this study is to find those elements and techniques used by National Telecommunication Corporation for recruitment and selection. This research aims to provide practical insight, suggestions and examples of simple, cost effective ways of improving every stage of recruitment and selection process. While it is intended primarily for managers and personnel practitioners of telecom sector, it will also help those applying for job in telecom sector and particularly at NTC. Most of the people involved in appointment process are aware of importance of making the right decision, and therefore it is likely to be a tense, stressful experience for all concerned. This research aims to reduce this stress by demystifying the process and practices, by explaining different available methods. en_US
