| dc.description.abstract | The requirement for analysis on the huge amount of data is growing knowledge in the field of research and industry. Data from a number of sources is collected and brought into the data warehouse for analysis. The retention period of this data is determined by the necessity of keeping it in context for future analysis. Data archiving approaches adopted for a source database cannot be used for data warehouse due to analytical reasons. Data warehouse data cannot be removed just between cutoff attribute values identified without doing any analysis. A number of other data warehouse archiving approaches exist in industry and research, which to some extent are successful. The main focus of this thesis is to study the business value of the data available in the data warehouse and use this value for data archiving. Data which delivered more business value in past times is to stay in the operational data warehouse for a longer period than that of less or very less business value. Unfortunately till today none of the approach is proposed to relate data of data warehouse to its business value. However every day business data is analyzed for making a number of corporate decisions which adds the business a value to its mission and goal. An approach is proposed in this thesis which will help to keep information about data queried and its business value. This information will be used to generate some statistics to discuss with a decision maker in deciding retention data period. The proposed approach is based on the Business Decision Model. | en_US |
