Abstract:
As the U.S Drawdown from Afghanistan approaches in 2014, all the states in the region
especially Pakistan and Afghanistan look on at what type of an Afghanistan will the future hold.
Pakistani state in particular, finds itself in a state of confusion over how to deal with the issues
like insurgency, terrorism and threats to its security in the future. Whether Pakistan’s policy
makers and military institutions look to follow the type of policy in Afghanistan they did before
9/11 or whether the strategic outlook of the state has changed over the last decade is a question
which needs to be answered in order to understand the future discourse of Afghanistan as well as
Pakistan itself. This research is an effort to understand the important factors involved in driving
Pakistan’s strategic policy in Afghanistan in the future.
