Abstract:
Meyal Oil Field, the study area, is located in district Attock near Pindi Gheb,
the central part of Potwar plateau of Upper Indus Basin. The study area lies in the
Himalayan collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian plates involving
continuous uplifting, erosion and deposition of the sediments. Rocks from Pre-
Cambrian to Quaternary age are present in the area. The Salt Range Formation is
overlain by the Cambrian to Eocene platforms. Interpretation of seismic lines shows
the presence of a popup structure in the area. Popup structure is most likely to be the
trap for the hydrocarbons. The Popup structure is east-west trending, gently dipping
anticlinal fold, bounded by thrust faults. The reflectors are marked with the help of
formation tops of well Meyal-17 using VSP data (Ellahi, 2013). For the structural
interpretation of the area, time and depth contour maps are generated. Correlation of
Meyal-01, Meyal-17 (Ellahi, 2013), Meyal-8P and Meyal-16 is made to for the
synthesis of subsurface structures between wells. Attribute analysis suggests the presence
of hydrocarbon at the Chorgali Formation and Sakesar Formation.
