Abstract:
The main purpose of the study is to evaluate hydrocarbon potential of the Panjpir
field by evaluating hydrocarbon potential of two wells Panjpir-01 and Panjpir-05,
Punjab Platform, Central Indus Basin, Pakistan. Geographically the Panjpir field is
located in tehsil Kabirwala and district Khanewal having coordinates 30° 40' 49.53" N
and 71° 57' 33.92" E. Tectonically the area is relatively stable with broad monocline
dipping gently towards the Sulaiman Depression. Clastic and carbonate rocks of
crataceous and jurassic age were targeted in both wells respectively. The hydrocarbon
potential of the two study wells was evaluated by petrophysical parameters and it has
been interpreted that Samanasuk and Lumshiwal formations were having good potential
to be a reservoir based on volume of shale 7.13%, average porosity 25.47%, saturation
of water 28.23% and hydrocarbon saturation 71.73% in Lunshiwal Formation and
volume of shale 13.85%, average porosity 22.44%, saturation of water 42.47% and
hydrocarbon saturation 57.02% in Samanasuk Formation of Panjpir-01 and volume of
shale 14.49%, average porosity 12.89%, saturation of water 59.60% and hydrocarbon
saturation 40.39% in Lumshiwal Formation and volume of shale 15.85%, average
porosity 20.27%, saturation of water 44.23% and hydrocarbon saturation 55.61% in
Samanasuk Formation of Pajpir-05.
