Remote Administration of Network Servers using Short Message Service

Abstract

Nowadays, computer networks are present in almost every organization and no organization can work without depending on computer networks. These computer networks provide wide range of network services to the applications and hardware devices used by the organization. Beside these facilities provided by the networks, there are also many problems arises and one of them was the physical presence of network administrator on the location of computer network in order to control and manage the network. In Network Monitoring System (NMS) a new methodology has been applied to control and manage computer network remotely using cell phone. A windows based application is developed and installed on any client machine attached to the network which monitors the important services provided by the network and if any problem arises with those services a text message is send to the network administrator containing the description of the problem and for this purpose a GSM Modem is used by the client machine to send and receive text messages. In the meanwhile the network administrator can send specified commands to the GSM modem as a reply which can be applied to the network with the help of monitoring application to resolve the issue.
