Abstract:
Shaigan Pharmaceutical is one of the major Pharma companies operating in Pakistan. Since
from its inception in 1993 Shaigan proved itself a growth oriented organization. Their
working philosophy is based on the concept of integrated departmentalization. Each
department has its own scope but all these departments are integrated in order to achieve a
common goal i.e. organization’s growth. Major departments are Finance, Marketing, Human
Resources, Quality Control and Supply Chain Management.
The focus of this report is on the Supply Chain Management department of Shaigan
Pharmaceutical Company. As Supply chain Management Department itself a big department,
performing number of activities so the primary focus is to analyze the effectiveness of
warehouse management system and its impact on the efficiency of inventory management.
For that purpose qualitative research approach is used to analyze the effectiveness of
warehouse management system in Shaigan. Moreover data was gathered from supply chain
manager and related officials through interviews. These interviews were analyzed through
Huang’s warehouse management model. On the basis of that analysis they identify some
problems relating warehouse management system such as lack of proper slotting, lack of
employee training and small size of receiving bay. At the end of this report some
recommendations along with action plan are also given to address these problems.
This report concludes that the overall warehouse management system of Shaigan is
satisfactory. Although there are some problems in the system yet operations are well
managed by the officials concerned. In order to make their system more appropriate they
should apply the recommendation given in the report which is based on the Huang’s
warehouse management model.
