Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to look the concept of cross docking, its important in the
distribution system and it is helpful in ehancing the distribution effeciency. This concept
of cross docking is widely researched in European countries and still it kep attention of
many resarchers. This concept of cross docking are day by day becoming more
extensively accepted as method of distribution. Cross docking has multiple benefits
which include the reduction in the inventory, response to customer increased, and the
operations of distribution have control well. But in Pakistan this concept in new and not
much explored by the researcher. People in pakistan does not have aware from that what
cross docking is.
From the analysis of literature review some fundamental questions identified and on the
basis of these questions a primary research was conducted. The qualitative approach and
research tools are used in this research like focused groups and in-depth interviews. In the
research, any kind of software will not be used for assistance while all the relevant data
will be documented in form of transcripts. On other side, analysis and recommendations
will be based on personal understanding and intuitions. Many remarkable studies and
literatures have been produced which discusses critical activities of the Cross docking
like truck scheduling and different shape, while research on types is not sufficiently held.
Nor all the types are discussed. My main focuses were on two Cross docking types,
named as pre- distribution and post-distribution. Comparison between these two types
and find out the product types that are fit in pre- distribution and products types for postdistribution.
Comparisons of cross docking and traditional distribution concept of
warehousing in Pakistan. Cross docking, direct to store and point to point deliveries are
discussed. Try to limit the research on the textile industry and retail stores. Based on the
analysis results and finding has been drawn. Conclusion gives an insight and helps to
give better understanding cross docking impact on improving distribution efficiency and
how this concept is better or more effective from the traditional warehousing system. In
the end research is given and identify of the areas for future research.
