Abstract:
The purpose of this research project is to give an action plan on the problem faced by the
client organization. The effect of job stress on job satisfaction for doctors was studied. The
study was conducted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad. Job stress
was the independent variable and job satisfaction was dependent variable. Quantitative
approach was selected to conduct the research by using a 24 item questionnaire. Total sample
size was 50 doctors of Medicine department.
The results show that doctors take impact of work load and patient suffering on their life
routine (29% and 34% correlation with job stress respectively). Working for long hours and
work load has strong negative relationship with intellectual stimulation (60%), relationship
with patients, relatives and staff (64%) and well management (46%) which was responsible
for low level of satisfaction in performing their job. In addition, poor management, lack of
availability of resources and dealing with patients suffering which are the main factors in
negatively influence all four factors of job satisfaction (professional stimulation 84%
negative correlation, Intellectual esteem 27% negative correlation, relationship with patients,
staff and relatives 40% negative correlation and well management 91% negative correlation),
all these negative relationships accumulate the main reason for dissatisfaction in their job.
Conversely, Doctors feel satisfied due to well-management and equipped with suitable
resources and having good relationships with patients, relatives and staff boost their job
satisfaction level as it was positively correlated with professional esteem (79%) and (67%)
with intellectual stimulation. In general, the job stress factors are dominant on job satisfying
factors resulting in a negative correlation of (55%) between Job stress and Job satisfaction.
The result indicates that job stress has a negative impact on job satisfaction of doctors. Our
findings of job stress on job satisfaction through this project allow us to recommend a few
potential solutions through this report.
