Abstract:
The objective of present study is to analyze the awareness and implementation
about environmental management in urban areas. This study deals with Sector G-7 of
Islamabad. The anticipated study is being planned to understand the process and
factors which shaped the perception of people, residing in the capital of Pakistan
about their environment. It is pertinent to note that the desires and drives of
inhabitants for the improvement and sustainability of their environment on the basis
of perception, which they are an integral part. It is an acknowledged truth that the
perception is the foundation on which the edifice of initiatives and action are based.
For the current study the primary data was directly collected from the study area, G-7
sector of Islamabad, with the help of a structured questionnaire. Whereas secondary
data includes interior with the residents of the sector, the random sampling method
was applied for the selection of 120 residents. Approximately 30 residents selected
from each sector for the purpose of analysis of the research subjects with regard to
awareness level of environmental practices. It is fact that the knowledge of issues play
a vital role in informed decision making. It is generally believed and widely claimed
that Islamabad is pollution free urban centre contrary to it the respondents considered
that the environmental pollution is creeping in their surroundings. It is an alarming
indicator with reference to the beautiful Islamabad. The study results indicate their
dissatisfaction with the performance of C.D.A and Maintenance Division. It is
observed that there is a visible gap between the perception of respondents and their
conduct. As a result of it that the state of urban environmental management of the
study area is not at desired level. In the absence of an over handed strategy to address
the issue of present collapse will be proved a futile effort.
