dc.description.abstract | The study area is located in Thar Platform of the Lower Indus Basin, Badin District, Sindh province. To determine the hydrocarbon prospects in the Lower Goru Formation, petrophysical analysis of three wells Mehro-01, Gadap-01 and Nereri-01 has been done using a complete suite of wireline logs. Petrophysical results show good porosity ranging from 17 to 7% for A sand , 16 to 6% of B sand and low volume of shale ranging from 7 to 19% for A sand and 13 to 22% for B sand of the Lower Goru Formation. All wells turned out to be 100% water saturated leaving no space for the hydrocarbon. Stratigraphic well log correlation shows presence of three sand units A, B and C (Upper Sand) and their extension throughout the study area. Structural correlation shows presence of normal faults dislocating rock units. Two sequences are found in all the under investigated wells, showing the deposition of A and B sands encountered in two cycles of transgression and regression. Owing to the position of A and B sand in Transgressive System Tract and Highstand System Tract, it has been inferred that these are shallow marine sandstones deposited shoreface environment. By correlating transgressive surface and maximum flooding surface, sequence stratigraphic framework of A and B sand in Mehro-01, Gadap-01 and Nereri-01 has been proposed. | en_US |
