dc.description.abstract In our country energy crisis is one of the serious problems since the last decade. Everyone is suffering from energy deprivation commonly known as load shedding. People are mostly using two alternatives in case of load shedding, firstly UPS and secondly electricity generators. Both of these techniques have their own limitations and disadvantages. The project is the solution for the above two alternatives of load shedding. This project focuses on load management. The basic theme is that during the load shedding periods instead of getting no electricity the consumer will get limited amount of electricity. This will be implemented through smart meter by defining two limits of load. First limit is the max limit (heavy limit) in which the user will be able to utilize maximum power. The second limit is the critical limit in which the users can only use their critical loads. The load capacity would be controlled through a GSM network. The meter would have the capability to communicate via regular GSM network and receive load management messages from the electric utility to manage the consumer load according to demand on the grid. en_US
