Abstract:
For the hydrocarbon exploration, petrophysical study has been carried out in Pirkoh-01 located in Sulaiman fold belt, sub part of central Indus basin Pakistan. Tectonically, Pirkoh structure is an attractive anticline, located in the central part of Mari Bugti Transverse uplift, which corresponds to the uplifted part adjacent to Sibi trough in its west and Sulaiman foredeep in its north – east. In Pirkoh-01 the drilling has been done from Kirthar Formation of Eocene age upto Mughalkot Formation of upper Cretaceous age. Logging suite which includes caliper log, spontaneous potential log, gamma ray log, dual laterolog, neutron log, density log, sonic log and microspherically focused log has been run from depth of 1953 to 2700 meters encountering lower Ranikot Formation of lower Paleocene age, Pab sandstone and Mughalkot Formation of upper Cretaceous age. Five meters thick zone of interest has been marked in lower Ranikot Formation showed really good porosity but low hydrocarbon saturation. Five zones of interest having 44 meters total thickness have been marked in Pab sandstone. All these five zones not only showed really good porosity and hydrocarbon saturation but also bear acceptable volume of shale. In Mughalkot Formation two zones having total thickness of 47 meters have been marked which showed good porosity and hydrocarbon saturation. According to present research work, Pab sandstone and Mughalkot Formation have been concluded as reservoirs and recommended for further testing to ensure the statement.
