dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the study is to evaluate hydrocarbon potential of the well named Chonai-01, the well is tectonically situated near Surghar ranges which is compressional regime in Kohat Sub-Basin, KPK, Pakistan. This has been achieved by using complete suite of wire line logs and available well data. This complete set of data is issued by Land Mark Resources, Pakistan with the prior permission of Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions, Pakistan. To complete the above mentioned task, all logs were correlated to mark the horizon of interest. In study area, Samana Suk Formation and Sakesar Formation had been marked as zone of interest. After the demarcation of interested zone, each zone (i.e Sakesar and Samana Suk formations) was evaluated in detail for the hydrocarbon potential using different sets of equations. The methodology adopted to accomplish this task include; the measurements for the Shale volume by using Gamma Ray Log, Porosities of the Reservoir zone by Density, Neutron Logs, Resistivity of water by using Spontaneous potential log , Saturation of water and Hydrocarbon saturation in the zones. Main reservoirs rocks are Sakesar and Samana Suk formations and volume of shale, total Porosity and effective porosity are 25.69%, 9.95%, 7.37% and 27.05%, 18.24%, 12.17% respectively. And the water saturation of the Sakesar and Samana Suk formation is 67.48% and 75.55% respectively. Zones of interests having high saturation of water, therefore not promising for hydrocarbon potential. en_US
