Abstract:
The basic objective of the study is to get preliminary understanding of the subsurface structural trend and stratigraphy of the cited area. Seismic data interpretation eventually resulted in outcomes as time and depth contour maps. Turkwal area is a part of Potwar sub-basin of the Upper Indus Basin of Pakistan. It is an anticlinal closure bounded by a Main Thrust Fault and its Back Thrust Fault that were generated as a result of collision of the Indian and the Eurasian Plates which is proved by using the 2D move software for structural restoration work. Seismic lines 97-CP-04, 97-CP-05 and 97-CP-06 were shot by POL in year 1997; seismic line 884-FMK-107 was shot by OGDCL in the year 1981 and the seismic line 77-CW-2 was shot by GOPL in the year 1977. The seismic lines are dip and strike lines. Seismic line 884-FMK-107 is a strike line and the others are dip lines. Four reflectors namely Chorgali, Sakesar, Lockhart and Khewra Sandstone formations were marked on the seismic section on the basis of depth and velocity information of these formations. Time contour maps of the reflectors were produced using two way time of the reflectors. Rms velocities were used to find the depths of the formations for the seismic section. Petrophysical analysis of Turkwal deep-01 indicates that the Chorgali Formation has two potential zones in it but could not make an economical reservoir because of thicknesses of few feet, Sakesar Formation also has a potential zone in it but being thin, it too could not make a good economical reservoir, the Khewra Sandstone, however, has a potential zone of considerable thickness and thus, can make a good economical reservoir.
