dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the dissertation is to evaluate the structure and hydrocarbon potential using seismic and well log data of Meyal area, Potwar subbasin, Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan. Due to the collision of Indian plate and Eurasian plate compressional forces are quite dominant in the Upper Indus Basin. As a result of these compressional forces Meyal area thus consists of a pop-up structure which facilitates the entrapment of hydrocarbons. The targeted formations were of Eocene age. The horizons were marked after the generation of a synthetic seismogram on the basis of their reflectivity coefficients. For structural enhancement, four migrated seismic lines i.e. 97-MYL-04, 97-MYL-05, 97-MYL-07 (dip lines) and 97-MYL-13 (strike line), were used. Time and depth contour maps of three horizons, Kohat Formation, Chorgali Formation and Sakesar Formation were generated which confirmed the presence of a pop-up structure. Using the Allen diagram it has been confirmed that the faults in the area are acting as a lateral seal for the reservoir. Chorgali Formation has been evaluated for its hydrocarbon potential using the log data which confirmed that it has good hydrocarbon potential. Reserves calculation also revealed that there is sufficient amount of oil in place. en_US
