Patriarchy, Gender and Development : An Analysis of Gender Mainstreaming Efforts by Development Organizations in District Rajanpur

Abstract

The study pays attention to the gender mainstreaming activities of the development organizations and consequently the change observed by the members of community in the interventional areas of development organizations. The research aim was to explore the nature of relationship between the community and the field workers of the development organizations. Moreover, it explores the reasons behind the active participation of women in the participatory development activities in the mainstream patriarchal society. Data for the research was collected through in-depth interviews from the active participants of the development activities of the area. Focus group discussions were conducted with the committee members and the community members. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were conducted with the development organizations field staff. Social relation approach by Naila kabeer was used as theoretical framework that is built on the socialist feminist framework. Data was analyzed through cross verification methods. The researcher used different conceptual lenses to interpret and analyze the data was collected from field.
