dc.description.abstract The Chichali Formation encountered in Chanda - 01 well located in the Shakardara, district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, has been studied in detail as a source of hydrocarbon in the study area. Six (6) drill cuttings of the formation were collected from Pet-Core Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan, Islamabad. Various geochemical parameters were used for the evaluation of formation to determine the quality, quantity, maturity and the environment of deposition of the organic matter. Total organic carbon (TOC) and genetic potential (GP) of samples from Chichali Formation indicate fair to good source rock potential. Pyrolysis results (S1.S2, HI, and GP) indicate that Chichali Formation is not a spent source rock, but is in the process of generating hydrocarbons. Maximum temperature (Tmax) and vitrinite reflectance (Ro%) measurements values showed that Chichali Formation is a mature source rock and falls within oil window. Geochemical and organic petrographical analyses indicate Type III kerogen for the formation. en_US
