Abstract:
Pakistan comprises two main sedimentary basins. These are Indus basin and Balochistan basin. The Indus basin is further divided into Upper Indus Basin, Central Indus Basin and Southern Indus Basin. The study area which is Kadanwari Gas Field located in Cental Indus Basin. Kadanwari Gas Field is the first deep commercial gas discovery in the Central Indus Basin. This gas field was discovered in 1989. The objective of this study is to determine the petroleum potential of Lower Goru Formation of Cretaceous age with the help of petrophysical analysis. There are different petrophysical parameters like volume of shale, porosity, water saturation and hydrocarbon saturation for characterization of reservoir. The petrophysical evaluation revealed that the Lower Goru Formation have 29% of shale volume, 10 to 15% of average effective porosity, 34% water saturation and 66% hydrocarbon saturation. These above mentioned results led us to conclude that sands of Lower Goru Formation are good reservoir in Kadanwari Gas Field with low volume of shale, good effective porosity and high hydrocarbon saturation.
