dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the dissertation is to evaluate the structure and hydrocarbon potential using seismic and well log data of Turkwal area, Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan. Turkwal area lies in Potwar sub-basin. The Potwar sub-basin is situated at the northern margin of the Pakistan in the western foothills of Himalaya. It comprises of the Potwar plateau, the Jhelum plain and the Salt Range. Turkwal structure is thought to be enriched by potential hydrocarbon, trapped up dip from the depocentre of Soan depression. Six seismic lines are used for structural interpretation. Time and depth contour maps of two horizons, Chorgali Formation and Sakesar Formation are generated which confirmed the pop up anticline structures with adjacent syncline in the subsurface. For petrophysical analysis two zones have been marked at the level of Chorgali Formation and by petrophysical analysis of the marked zone it clearly shows the presence of hydrocarbon with zone-1 having Vsh 12.15% and the effective porosity 4.81%, saturation of water 62.91% and the saturation of hydrocarbon 37.09%, zone-2 having Vsh 30.48%, effective porosity 1.42%, saturation of water 81.20% and the saturation of hydrocarbon 18.80%. en_US
