dc.description.abstract | Balkassar is considered a mature oilfield located in central part of Potwar sub-basin which is a part of Himalayan foreland fold-and-thrust belt .It was discovered in 1945 by Attock Oil Company. 2D seismic reflection data was used for conducting seismic interpretation. Structural and attribute analysis revealed the trend of deformation through post tertiary Himalayan compression from NW direction produced a bulge/anticlinal structure creating series of faulted and unfaulted anticlines developed on multiple detachment surfaces. The deformation is mainly in northwest-southeast direction. The intensity of the structuration is higher in the east towards the Jehlum Fault. The time and depth contour maps clearly depict a pop-up structure bounded by two thrust faults. Among the two horizons, Sakesar and Chorgalli, of Eocene package, Chorgali is the reservoir formation of the area. For petrophysical analysis one zone has been marked at the level of Chorgali formation which indicates hydrocarbon. Hence 3D seismic data along with the core samples should be used for further studies. It could help in understanding reservoir properties in a better way. | en_US |
