The exponential growth of social media has reshaped the psychological landscape of modern youth, introducing both unprecedented opportunities and serious mental health challenges. This research critically investigates the role of social media in the emergence of psychological disorders among young individuals and offers a faith-based response grounded in Islamic teachings. While platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp serve as tools for connectivity and self-expression, their excessive and unregulated use has been directly linked to anxiety, depression, emotional instability, and a diminished sense of life purpose. Drawing upon socio-historical and analytical methodologies, this study examines the psychological vulnerabilities of today’s youth and traces their roots in digital overexposure and spiritual detachment. It highlights how the lack of meaningful engagement, value-based environments, and moral guidance has intensified emotional alienation among young people. The research revisits Islamic teachings from the Qur’an and Sunnah that emphasize the value, responsibility, and potential of youth, offering a holistic framework for psychological resilience and personal growth. By identifying key psychological impacts of social media and correlating them with prophetic guidance and Islamic ethics, this study provides practical solutions for mental well-being. It advocates for a balanced digital life, informed media engagement, and the revival of spiritual awareness to empower youth to contribute positively to society. The findings offer valuable insights for educators, counselors, parents, and policymakers seeking to mitigate the adverse effects of social media and cultivate a generation rooted in faith, purpose, and psychological strength. |
