Abstract:
The advent of AI in corporate environments marks a paradigm shift, which requires an analysis to its legal framework. In this perspective, we set out to explore the ways AI has transpired in Pakistani corporate law and examine the adverse effects created due thereto. Through an examination of the current legal framework in Pakistan and whether there is a need for ammendment or augmentation so as a to ensure compliance with AI technologies. The study shows the possible consequences of AI on employment in Pakistan such as job loss, skills gap and creation of new roles. It also discusses the legal issues that arise with AI, such as responsibility for use of technology and data protection or algorithmic bias. Through a study on the legal practitioners in an artificial intelligence (AI) era, this paper seeks to understand and theoretically explain how AI is both a disruptive force which challenges professions such as legal practice potentially leading to de-professionalization or re-professionalisation. The piece also looks at the need for international cooperation, as well as setting future directions of responsible AI use in Pakistan. Further, it provides a unique glimpse into the legal landscape of AI in Pakistan and contributes useful insights as well as wayforward to legislators, practitioners and entities incorporating rapidly-emerging technology landscape. This highlights the urgency of a universal, visionary approach to ensure AI works for society and mitigates against possible harm.
