Abstract:
Background: Tocopherols are found to be useful in reducing the harmful effects of noise stress on the histomorphology of the
testicles of rats exposed to noise stress.
Objective: To investigate the protective effects of tocopherol on histomorphology of rats exposed to chronic noise stress.
Materials and Methods: Study was approved by Ethical Review Committee of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi on dated 02-09-
2022. It was a Lab based experimental trial conducted for three months. Ninety male albino rats weighing between 250-300g were
housed in the NIH animal house. The animals were divided randomly into 3 groups with 30 animals in each group. Group A was a
control group, Group B and C were experimental groups. They were undergone a continuous 6-hour daily of chronic noise stress at
an intensity of 100 dB, by using an uninterrupted power source. It was offered with a nine-volt standby battery and DC adopter. In
addition to noise stress, Group C also received alpha-tocopherol by gastric lavage tube. The Hematoxylin and Eosin (H & E) and
Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) stains were for histopatholgoical studies. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21.
Results: When compared to control group A, there was a statistically significant difference in various parameters. When compared
to experimental group B, the outcomes in tocopherol-treated experimental group C were statistically significant; but, when
compared to control group A, they were not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Alpha tocopherol has a protective effect against the negative histomorphological changes caused by noise stress in
rat testis.
