| dc.description.abstract | In today’s competitive market, small home-based businesses face problems and pressure to manage their operations efficiently, especially when it comes to pricing and financial planning. Most of the businesses in the handmade and customized craft sector do their pricing informally, relying on intuition, peer pricing and rough estimation of cost. This project focuses on the home-made business “The Crafty Needle” specializing in embroidery and customized craft products, as a real-world example to explore the financial shortcomings resulting from informal pricing strategies. Through the detailed analysis of the “The Crafty Needle” product line including items such as embroidery hoops, tote bags, keychains, bookmarks, and customized T-shirts. This project shows the key financial issues such as inconsistent pricing, lack of cost transparency, hidden production cost, and the difficulty of determining actual profit margins. This not only affects business profitability but also impacts the customer trust, brand consistency, and long-term sustainability. Our project’s purpose is to address these problems by implementing cost cards- easy to use as a financial tool that allow small businesses to calculate and track the actual cost of each product. A cost card records material costs, labor time, packaging expenses, and overheads and then applies a fixed profit margin to determine the final selling price. This method introduces consistency, ensures the prices reflect the actual effort and resources and helps the business owner make informed financial decisions. We created cost cards for a variety of products using real data from the home-based business The Crafty Needle to illustrate the difference between structured and informal pricing. When the production costs were compared to different price points using visual charts and cost breakdowns. It became clear that profit margins under the prior pricing structure varied greatly. Using cost cards decreased pricing irregularities and provided the business owner with greater control over cost planning and profitability. | en_US |
