BU Knowledge Hub: An E-Reading Platform

Abstract

Students, specifically the students of Bahria University face difficulties in utilising library resources, find relatable material and finding specialized collections such as those dedicated to Allama Iqbal. Currently, there is no specific application that can address these issues. As the library system have also integrated digital technology in the present time, there is a dire need for a platform that digitalize the education experiences of students of Bahria University. Thus, the aim of this project, BU Knowledge Hub, is to create a holistic e-reading solution, specifically suited for the academic & research requirements of Bahria University students. Modern strategies such as using the Flutter framework for cross-development, ensuring compatibility across both android and iOS devices, marked the development process. Other features such as voice search, audiobook integration, and a modern Material 3 design theme are forthcoming to enhance the application's functionality and user engagement. The main features of this application are managing favourite books, sharing them on social media and having a search bar that makes it efficient to search for content from the dataset of the application. Specific, well-defined sections, such as the Iqbal Corner devoted to Allama Iqbal's works, enrich the learning experience. The application also offers user-friendly tools for taking and organizing notes, making it easy to keep track of important ideas. Additionally, the audio feature allows users to listen to books, providing a more accessible and engaging way to enjoy and learn from the content. The report outlines the technical strategies adopted to develop these features, the methods used in addressing them and the results of the built application. It also discusses recommendations made regarding future updates and improvements, which focus on the improvement of accessibility, contents, and the overall user experience.
