2D Seismic Data Interpretation and Petrophysical Analysis of Gambat Field, Lower Indus Basin, Pakistan

Abstract

This thesis was conducted to understand the subsurface geology of Gambat field in Lower Indus Basin with the help of 2D-sesimic data interpretation and petrophysical analysis. The Duljan Re-Entry-01 well is situated in the western part of the Lower Indus Basin in Gambat Block. It was studied to assess the reservoir and unconventional gas potential of the Sembar Formation. The well log interpretation and petrophysical analysis identified a sequence of interbedded shale and sandstone which represents a mixed siliciclastic depositional environment. Petrophysical studies further revealed that there are favorable reservoir characteristics in sand rich intervals along with significant shale gas potential in organic rich zones. The results suggest that the Sembar Formation at Duljan Re-Entry-01 is a viable target for both conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon exploration in the Lower Indus Basin.
