The Impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) On Economic Growth in Pakistan: The Mediating Role of Access to Internet Services

Abstract

This study investigates the complex relationship between information and communications technology (ICT) adoption, economic growth and access to Internet services among selected information technology (IT) companies in Pakistan between 2000 and 2020. This study explores the dynamics and impact of ICT on economic outcomes using statistics Descriptive, correlation matrices, unit root tests, cointegration tests, and econometric models. The results indicate a positive relationship between ICT adoption and economic growth, supported by a strong positive association and a significant coefficient in the fully adjusted OLS test. Cointegration tests confirm stable, long-run relationships between variables, while Granger causality tests reveal temporal dynamics. Recommendations for future research include expanding cross-industry analysis and incorporating qualitative data, while practical implications point to informed policies, infrastructure investments and strategic initiatives by IT companies. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the interplay between technology, economic growth, and network accessibility, laying the foundation for academic research and practical policy making.
