dc.description.abstract | This qualitative study explores how Islamabad's female university students perceive safety and trust when using online cab services like Uber, Careem, and InDrive. Concerns about societal norms, driver conduct, and personal safety have raised along with the increasing use of digital transportation, particularly among young women. The purpose of the study is to investigate how all of these factors affect female students' everyday travel choices and experiences. Using a case study technique, the data was obtained from 20 female students at three Islamabad universities through participant observation, structured questionnaires, daily travel records, in-depth interviews, and casual discussions. The data was also gathered from Drivers, parents, a company representative, and an FIA cybercrime officer for additional information. Common themes and concerns were found using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that although online cab services offer independence and convenience, safety issues are still common. Particularly while riding alone or at night, several participants reported feeling scared, uneasy, and harassed. Perceptions and mobility decisions are greatly influenced by parental influence and social norms. Many female students lack confidence in the safety features provided by these services, even though they are digitally competent. In order to increase the reliability of online cab services for women and advance our understanding of gendered mobility in Pakistan, the study emphasizes the importance of better safety protocols, awareness campaigns, and institutional support. | en_US |
